A Thanksgiving Tradition to Share

Jessica Sibila, Executive Director
The Exhibitor Advocate

Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite times of the year. As a foodie, a holiday centered around a delicious meal is a dream, offering a chance to experiment with new dishes. But there’s one dish that never changes and remains a staple on our table: Chocolate Pecan Pie.

I’m fortunate to be close to family on Thanksgiving. In the years when I’ve been traveling or out of town, I’m always comforted by our traditions. After the turkey dinner and pie, we go for a walk. This simple ritual gives me a moment to reflect on everything I’m thankful for, no matter where I am.

In this spirit of gratitude, and in staying true to The Exhibitor Advocate’s mission of providing useful resources, I’m sharing my mom’s treasured chocolate pecan pie recipe. Whether you have the day off or you’re on show site, with family or your “road family,” I hope you find time to celebrate, create new traditions, and reflect on all you have to be grateful for.

From all of us at The Exhibitor Advocate, we are truly grateful for you, our members. Your continued support and tireless efforts ensure that exhibitors always have a seat at the table in the exhibitions and events industry. Thank you.

Mom’s Chocolate Pecan Pie Recipe

Here is a small piece of my family’s tradition to share with yours.

Ingredients

  • one 9″ unbaked pie shell
  • 4 oz sweet chocolate (Baker’s or Ghirardelli)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 and 1/4 cups whole pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the chocolate and butter together over low heat.
  3. Stir in the sweetened condensed milk and hot water until the mixture is smooth.
  4. Remove the pan from the heat. Slowly whisk the slightly beaten eggs into the chocolate mixture until well combined.
  5. Stir in the pecans, salt, and vanilla extract.
  6. Pour the filling into the unbaked pie shell.
  7. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the center is set.

Let it cool completely before serving. Enjoy
